We have observed that the Canon 550D can develop more hot pixels (red, white, and blue dots) over time – this is particularly problematic for long exposures and astrophotography.
This problem is particularly noticeable with astro-modified cameras. If you're buying a Canon 550D for astrophotography, you should definitely make sure this problem has been fixed, otherwise you'll end up with unwanted spots in every image.
When purchasing a Canon 550D, make sure that hot pixel removal has been performed, otherwise the defective pixels will be visible.
Our Solution
Using a special process, we permanently deactivate the sensor's disruptive hot pixels. Disturbing pixels are mapped out by directly entering them into the camera's registers.
