Astrofotografie ist ein spezieller Bereich der Fotografie, der sich mit der Aufnahme von Himmelsobjekten wie Sternen, Planeten, Monden, Nebeln, Galaxien und anderen astronomischen Phänomenen beschäftigt. Sie kombiniert die Kunst der Fotografie mit den Anforderungen und Herausforderungen der Astronomie. Hier sind einige wichtige Aspekte:
Technische Grundlagen
Lange Belichtungszeiten: Astrofotografie erfordert oft lange Belichtungszeiten, um das schwache Licht von fernen Sternen und Galaxien einzufangen. Dabei ist eine gute Stabilität der Kamera entscheidend, um Verwacklungen zu vermeiden.
Spezialisierte Ausrüstung: Neben einer guten Kamera (oft DSLR oder spiegellose Kameras) sind auch Teleskope, Nachführsysteme (die die Bewegung der Erde ausgleichen) hilfreich.
Arten der Astrofotografie
Weitwinkelaufnahmen: Diese Form der Fotografie zeigt große Teile des Himmels und eignet sich gut für Aufnahmen von Sternenfeldern, der Milchstraße oder Polarlichtern. Ein Weitwinkelobjektiv und eine stabile Kamerahalterung sind hier die wichtigsten Ausrüstungsgegenstände.
Deep-Sky-Fotografie: Hierbei werden weit entfernte Objekte wie Galaxien, Nebel oder Sternhaufen fotografiert. Dafür wird meist ein Teleskop mit Kamera verwendet. Die Belichtungszeiten können hier mehrere Stunden betragen.
Unsere umgebauten Kameras haben im Vergleich zum Standardmodell eine um mehr als das Vierfache erhöhte Empfindlichkeit in der H-Alpha-Linie und eine um mehr als das Sechsfache höhere Empfindlichkeit in der Schwefel-II-Linie.
Planeten- und Mondfotografie: Bei dieser Art werden nahe Objekte wie der Mond oder Planeten fotografiert. Hierbei ist eine hohe Brennweite wichtig, um die Details der Himmelskörper scharf abbilden zu können.
Die am Rand des gerade noch für das Auge sichtbaren Bereichs bei 656,28 nm liegenden H-alpha Strahlen kann man bereits mit einer nichtmodifizierten Kamera aufnehmen, allerdings sind dafür deutlich längere Belichtungszeiten notwendig. Durch die Entfernung des Sperrfilters wird das Spektrum der Kamera bis zu 700 nm erweitert und somit gelangen die im H-alpha-Bereich liegenden Strahlen bei kürzeren Belichtungszeiten ungehindert zum Sensor. Man arbeitet mit kürzeren Belichtungszeiten und kann im Vergleich zu einer nichtmodifizierten Kamera in der gleichen Zeit mehr Aufnahmen machen, deren Anzahl für das spätere Stacken wichtig ist.
Der Sensor einer Canon-DSLR besteht aus mehreren optischen Filtern, darunter dem für die Sperrung der H-alpha-Strahlen zuständigen phaser layer infrared-absorption glass filter. Wir entfernen diesen Filter in unserer Werkstatt mit Reinraumtechnik und stellen das Auflagenmaß des Sensors nach Canon-Vorgabe ein, sodass der Sensor weiterhin bis in alle Ecken das Bild bei einem treffsicheren Autofokus bis zur Unendlichkeit abbildet.
Auf dem Bild (1) ist der Sensor einer Canon EOS 1000D zu sehen. Der Sensor beinhaltet u.a. den phaser layer infrared-absorption glass filter (4). Nach Entfernung dieses Filters bleibt der Sensor (5) weiterhin durch den obersten Tiefpassfilter (2) geschützt. Auf diesem Filter befindet sich die Sensorreinigung - ein piezolelektrisches Element, das mit hoher Frequenz die Oberfläche rüttelt und damit evtl. Staubpartikel abstösst. So (6) sieht der umgebaute und für Astroaufnahmen modifizierte Sensor aus. So wie der Sensor einer 1000D aufgebaut ist, sind es auch die Sensoren der anderen Canon EOS Kameras.

Astrokamera für Fotografie während der klaren Nächte aber auch für Normalaufnahmen
Eine astromodifizierte Kamera kann weiterhin für Tageslichtaufnahmen benutzt werden. Dazu führt man entweder einen manuellen Weißabgleich durch oder schraubt auf das Objektiv einen UV-IR-Cut-Filter auf, der die optischen Eigenschaften des entfernten Sperrfilters hat. Astrophotography is a special field of photography that deals with the capture of celestial objects such as stars, planets, moons, nebulae, galaxies and other astronomical phenomena. It combines the art of photography with the demands and challenges of astronomy.
Here are some important aspects:
Technical basics
Long exposure times: Astrophotography often requires long exposure times to capture the faint light from distant stars and galaxies. Good camera stability is crucial to avoid camera shake.
Specialized equipment: In addition to a good camera (often DSLR or mirrorless cameras), telescopes, tracking systems (which compensate for the movement of the earth) are also helpful.
Types of astrophotography
Wide-angle shots: This form of photography shows large parts of the sky and is good for taking pictures of star fields, the Milky Way or northern lights. A wide-angle lens and a stable camera mount are the most important pieces of equipment here.
Deep-sky photography: This involves photographing distant objects such as galaxies, nebulae or star clusters. A telescope with a camera is usually used for this. The exposure times can be several hours.
Our modified cameras have more than four times the sensitivity in the H-alpha line and more than six times the sensitivity in the sulfur II line compared to the standard model.
Planetary and lunar photography: This type involves photographing close objects such as the moon or planets. A long focal length is important in order to be able to capture the details of the celestial bodies in sharp focus.
The H-alpha rays, which are at the edge of the range just visible to the eye at 656.28 nm, can be recorded with an unmodified camera, but this requires significantly longer exposure times. By removing the blocking filter, the spectrum of the camera is expanded to 700 nm, meaning that the rays in the H-alpha range can reach the sensor unhindered with shorter exposure times. You work with shorter exposure times and can take more pictures in the same amount of time compared to an unmodified camera, the number of which is important for later stacking.
The sensor of a Canon DSLR consists of several optical filters, including the phaser layer infrared-absorption glass filter responsible for blocking the H-alpha rays. We remove this filter in our workshop using clean room technology and adjust the flange focal distance of the sensor according to Canon criteria so that the sensor continues to capture the image in all corners with accurate autofocus up to infinity.
The image (1) shows the sensor of a Canon EOS 1000D. The sensor contains, among other things, the phaser layer infrared-absorption glass filter (4). After removing this filter, the sensor (5) remains protected by the top low-pass filter (2). The sensor cleaning system is located on this filter - a piezoelectric element that shakes the surface at high frequency and thereby repels any dust particles. This is what the converted sensor, modified for astrophotography, looks like (6). The sensors of the other Canon EOS cameras are constructed in the same way as the sensor of a 1000D.

Astro camera for photography during clear nights but also for normal shots
An astromodified camera can still be used for daylight photography. To do this, you either perform a manual white balance or screw a UV-IR cut filter onto the lens that has the optical properties of the removed blocking filter. There are clip filters on the market that insert the phaser layer infrared-absorption glass filter removed during astromodification into the mirror box in front of the sensor.
